A Mixed-Use Market for Grand Rapids

A couple of you sent links to this project in Grand Rapids, and we're interested to hear what the rest of you think about it.

The mayor and the Grand Action Committee recently announced plans to develop a $27-million, year-round market in the Heartside Neighborhood.

In addition to a farmers market, the finished project will include space for artisan food makers, a greenhouse, and educational facility with demonstration kitchen in addition to office space and residential units.

The developers believe this project will create over 1,000 jobs and bring $775 million of economic activity to the downtown area. If all goes as planned, this mixed-use destination will open in the spring of 2012.

At a press conference, David Frey of Grand Action said the market would be "a magnet for the region and for visitors and a very energizing part of what's next for this great city."
