Placemaking Contest

Growing Greens Community Garden, Milford

About the Project

Our placemaking proposal is to enrich and expand Growing Greens community garden, which we began last year. The project site is located in Milford Village which has a population of approximately 6,000 residents. Our site is half an acre of meadowland bordered by the Milford Trail, Huron River, retail locations and a busy intersection. The project site is visible to all people driving north into Milford from the expressway.

We want to grow healthy food for our families and neighbors, involve and educate our children about healthy eating and foster a sense of community. We want to grow and donate fresh organic produce for our local food bank “Community Sharing”.

All members of our community would have the opportunity to benefit from growing food, friendships, community and hope for a healthier future.

As a child this place would teach me how to grow healthy food, how food gets on my plate, the joy of eating something fresh from the vine and joy of helping others in my community.

As a parent I would have the opportunity to provide my family with affordable organic produce while spending quality, unplugged time together.

As a visitor driving into town I would see a community that cares about healthy lifestyles and helping each other.

As a person struggling in this economy I would benefit directly from fresh produce, grown in the Growing Greens garden and provided to me through our local food bank.
